The German authorities have clarified that the fast-track temporary visas for Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims are available only to nationals of Türkiye.
Such a clarification was made by the German Foreign Office, which said for Info Migrants that the visa-granting rules had been eased only for Turkish victims, meaning that the visa procedures for Syrian earthquake victims remain unchanged, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The explanation regarding the visa rules for Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims comes not long after it was reported that nationals of both countries were eligible for the fast-track visa.
Media reports were based on an official tweet made by the Minister of the Interior of Germany, Nancy Faeser, who said that Germany wants to make it possible “for Turkish or Syrian families in Germany” to bring their close relatives to the country.
Such a statement by Minister Faeser added to the misconception and made it appear like earthquake victims of the two countries would be treated the same when applying for a visa to stay with their relatives in Germany temporarily.
Even though Syrian earthquake victims are not eligible for the fast-track visa, they are still eligible to apply for a C-visa. This type of visa permits all of its holders to stay in Germany for up to three months.
However, Syrians applying for this visa will have to meet all the rules, and their applications will not have priority, meaning that the processing time will not be accelerated and the earthquake consequences are not relevant.
While Syrians will not be able to get a visa through facilitated rules, Turkish earthquake victims, on the other hand, are subject to less strict rules.
Germany has already increased its staff at foreign missions in Türkiye and has said that applications from earthquake victims who are in need of accommodation and medical treatment will be processed as soon as possible so they can stay with their close relatives in Germany.
Turkish earthquake victims receiving a German visa under facilitated rules are required to present a passport, submit proof of their address, and proof of having close family ties in Germany.
The German host family wishing to take in family members affected by the earthquake must also follow some rules.
