Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has once again announced to hold a tractor parade on January 26 on the occasion of Republic Day. This time the parade will not be held in Delhi but in different 500 districts of the country. This decision was taken in the All India General Body meeting of SKM held in New Delhi on Thursday.
Let us tell you that on 26 January 2021, a tractor parade was taken out by the United Kisan Morcha. At that time, farmers' organizations were sitting on the Delhi border in protest against three new agricultural laws. There was violence during a tractor parade in the country's capital, Delhi. Farmers have been protesting on Delhi's Tikri and Singhu border for more than a year. Later, the central government withdrew all the three agricultural laws.
In the meeting held on Thursday, the main demands of the farmers and farm workers were legal guarantee of minimum support price at the rate of C2+50% for procurement of all crops in 2024, debt relief to farmers through loan waiver, stop privatization of electricity, A call was made to intensify the struggle for the dismissal of Union Home Minister Ajay Mishra Teni and prosecution of other demands.
After the meeting, SKM informed that from 10 to 20 January 2024, the state units of the United Farmers' Front in 20 states will conduct a large-scale public awareness campaign against the central government by going door-to-door and distributing leaflets. He said that the purpose of this is to highlight pro-corporate economic policies, which are against the interests of farmers, workers and common people.
It was claimed that this was causing mass unemployment, uncontrolled inflation, poverty, debt and uncontrolled rural problems. The campaign is against the corporate state-based development dependent on the GDP rate and the government's narrative of India becoming a three trillion dollar economy, characterized by falling per capita income, rising economic inequality and minimum support prices to farmers and workers. The minimum wage hides the refusal.
SKM will organize district level tractor parades in all states and union territories on Republic Day, 26 January 2024. SKM hoped that the parade would be held in at least 500 districts. SKM has appealed to the farmers to participate in the Republic Day parade in large numbers and a tractor parade will be organized after the formal parade ends. The farmers participating in the tractor parade will hoist the national flag as well as the flags of the constituent organizations. Besides tractors, other vehicles and motorcycles will also participate in the parade.
