EU Chamber of Commerce Advises Vietnam to Drop Tourist Visa Requirement for All Europeans

The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam has required that the Vietnamese government removes the tourist visa requirement for all nationals of the EU who still need such a document to enter the country.

The EU Chamber of Commerce advised the government of Vietnam to facilitate its visa rules and consider granting a three-month or six-month visa exemption for Europeans planning to have a long vacation in Vietnam, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Such a recommendation was made in order to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector, which has been highly affected by the measures imposed to halt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EU Chamber of Commerce also suggested that the government start focusing on the EU market so that it does not become dependent on some other markets, such as the markets of China and South Korea.

Currently, of all EU/Schengen Area countries, only nationals of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, and Sweden are permitted to enter Vietnam without having to obtain a tourist visa for stays of up to 15 days.

Nationals of the countries mentioned above who wish to stay in Vietnam for tourist purposes for over 15 days need to apply for a visa. Additionally, those exempt from the visa requirement who want to re-enter Vietnam must wait at least 30 days between visits in order to be able to do so.

While nationals of the countries mentioned above can enter Vietnam without having to undergo visa procedures when reaching the country for travel purposes, the case is not the same for nationals of the remaining EU/Schengen countries.

Nationals of all the other EU/Schengen countries must apply for a visa when planning to reach Vietnam for travel purposes.

EU nationals applying for a Vietnam tourist visa must submit the completed visa applications form, their passport, which must be valid for at least another six months, and passport-sized pictures taken recently.

In addition, all Vietnam tourist visa applicants must also submit proof of having paid the visa fee, and a letter of invitation, if applied.

Nationals of the EU planning to apply for a Vietnam tourist visa can do so online, on arrival, or at an Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam in their home country.

It is believed that Vietnam continues to keep visa rules in place for nationals of some EU/Schengen countries since its nationals are also required to obtain a visa to enter the EU.

All nationals of Vietnam planning to enter the EU for travel, business or any other purposes are required to obtain a visa.
