Further, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India vide notification dated 16.02.2022 issued guidelines on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for producers, importers, brand-owners (SHAZNAT) and plastic waste processors. Guidelines are issued and registration is given on an online centralized portal to manage plastic packaging waste. All the stakeholder departments are creating awareness and making full efforts to control plastic waste. The Punjab Pollution Control Board has not given any permission to manufacture plastic carry bags in the state of Punjab.

Local government officials along with other departments and PPCB to implement the ban on plastic carry bags. Regular field inspections are being conducted by the officials of the and violators are being issued challans. Board officials conducted 2165 inspections during October-December, 2022, out of which 447 violators were caught. During this inspection, 3.026 metric tonnes of plastic carry bags were seized and a fine of Rs 6.61 lakh was imposed on the violators.
