Birsa Munda Central Jail Superintendent Hamid Akhtar will be questioned on Tuesday. The ED issued summons and directed him to appear at the regional office in Ranchi on March 7. A legal dispute is going on between the jail administration and the ED regarding the demand for CCTV footage of the jail. ED has information that money laundering accused are using phone and other facilities wrongly while in jail.
The ED had sought CCTV footage from the jail administration after receiving information about the use of facilities including phones in jail by money laundering accused. This demand of ED was challenged by the jail administration in the PMLA court. For this, it was argued that the security of the jail could be threatened by giving CCTV footage. Also, this matter is related to the privacy of the prisoners.
On behalf of the ED in the court, it was said that footage is needed to investigate the activities of the accused. After the hearing, the PMLA court ordered the CCTV footage to be handed over to the ED. But instead of handing over the CCTV footage to the ED, the jail administration has challenged the PMLA court’s order in the High Court.
