ECBC design professionals will be enlisted by PEDA for energy saving in buildings

Punjab Energy Development Agency: Punjab New and Renewable Energy Minister Aman Arora said that to make buildings or building complexes energy efficient, Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) experts/professionals have been listed by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA). impanels) will be done, which will ensure maximum energy savings in buildings.

It may be mentioned that the Punjab Government has issued an Energy Conservation Building Code for construction of new commercial buildings in the state with connected load of 100 KW or more or contract demand of 120 KW-ampere or more or conditioned area of 500 square meters or more. has been notified. The code has also been incorporated into the building bye-laws of local governments and housing and urban development, making its compliance mandatory for approval of building plans.

Aman Arora said that PEDA has given ECBC. The process of enlisting design professionals has started. These professionals will assist Architects/Owners to ensure ECBC compliance at State level. The last date for submission of applications for empanelment is May 25, 2023 by 3 PM and the application must be accompanied by the necessary empanelment fee and documents.

He said that to ensure the implementation of ECBC in the state, ECBC design professionals will facilitate ECBC compliance to the owner/applicant during construction of the building. Apart from providing technical assistance to various ECBC compliant commercial buildings they will check the minimum energy efficiency levels as per latest Energy Conservation Building Code and ECBC norms/notifications issued by Punjab Government from time to time.

The Cabinet Minister further said that Punjab ECBC, on buildings/building complexes like offices, hotels, hospitals, shopping complexes, group housing complexes and other buildings, which are not used primarily for industrial i.e. manufacturing purpose. applies

He said that a building cell has also been set up in the PEDA office, which consists of two engineers and an architect. This cell is helping all stakeholders to prepare necessary documents, properly implement Punjab ECBC in the state. The Building Cell has trained more than 650 architects and engineers in consultation with departments/organizations.

For capacity building of stakeholders regarding Punjab ECBC, 85 training programs have been organized at Municipal Corporations and other ULBs, in which more than 8800 professionals have been trained.
