DYPA: Unemployment continues to decrease

In September 2023, the total number of registered unemployed persons in the register of the Public Employment Service (DYPA) amounted to 836,713 persons, recording a decrease of -52,752 persons (-5.9%) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, September 2022 and a decrease of -60,830 people (-6.8%) compared to the previous month of August 2023.

According to the DYPA registered unemployment statistics, of the total number of registered unemployed, 488,714 people (58.4%) are registered in the DYPA register for a period equal to or longer than 12 months and 347,999 people (41.6% %) are registered in the DYPA register for a period of less than 12 months.

Men amounted to 278,803 people (33.3% rate) and women amounted to 557,910 people (66.7% rate).

The 30-44 age group gathers the largest number of registered unemployed among the age groups, which amounted to 274,299 people (a rate of 32.8%).

The secondary education level, which includes post-secondary education, gathered the largest number of registered unemployed among the educational levels, which amounted to 386,709 people (46.2%).

Among the Regions of the country, the Region of Attica and the Region of Central Macedonia recorded the largest number of registered unemployed, which amounted to 297,677 people (percentage of 35.6%) and 169,837 persons (percentage of 20.3%) respectively.

The total of the subsidized unemployed, in September 2023, (refers to the number of beneficiaries paid within the corresponding month), amounted to 181,080 people, of which 173,226 (95.7%) are general unemployed and other categories of subsidized unemployed and 7,854 (4.3%) are seasonal tourist occupations.

In particular, the number of subsidized unemployed people, in September 2023, reached 181,080 people, showing an increase of 5,648 people (3.2%) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, September 2022, and an increase of 36,660 people (25.4 %) compared to the previous month of August 2023.

Males numbered 57,534 (31.8% rate) and females numbered 123,546 (68.2% rate).

Of the total number of subsidized unemployed, 137,870 (76.1% rate) are general, 1,635 (0.9% rate) are builders, 7,854 (4.3% rate) are seasonal tourist occupations, 1,055 (0.6% rate) are seasonal other (agricultural), 32,284 (17.8% rate) are educational and 382 (0.2% rate) are other.
