Chandigarh: During the Captain government in Punjab, mafia boss Mukhtar Ansari was given VIP treatment during his imprisonment in Ropar Jail. This has been disclosed in the investigation conducted by the Punjab Police.

In this, it has been revealed that the mafia Mukhtar Ansari has been in Ropar Jail from January 2019 to April 2021 for 2 years and 3 months and during this period he received VIP treatment. Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, who was the Prisons Minister in the present government of Punjab, demanded action against the relevant officers in the Legislative Assembly session.

This revelation has been made in the investigation report of ADGP RN Dhoke. The report also said that some jail officials had allegedly taken bribes from Mukhtar Ansari in exchange for facilities. Because of which action has been recommended against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act. However, the report did not incriminate any Congress leader in this regard, whereas earlier it was alleged that Ansari had links with some of the Punjab and national Congress leaders.

Ansari was behind bars in a jail in Uttar Pradesh and the reason behind bringing him to Punjab was that the Punjab Police had registered an FIR against him in the case of demanding Rs 10 crore ransom from a builder in Mohali’s Sector 70. The same case was cited when Ansari was brought to Punjab on transit remand.

Even here Mohali police did not file the challan in the court. After which the state government continued to refrain from sending Mukhtar Ansari back, despite being repeatedly told by the UP government. Finally, the UP government appealed to the Supreme Court and regained custody of Mukhtar. ADGP Dhoke submitted his investigation report to the government last month, which is pending with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
