DRI recovered five kilos of heroin, arrested 3 including a woman

A large quantity of heroin has been recovered from a consignment of brooms from Afghanistan at the Attari border in Amritsar. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has found about five and a half kilos of heroin from the consignment of brooms. This consignment was sent by an Afghan smuggler in the name of his Indian wife. The woman and two other persons accompanying her are being detained and questioned. Along with this, the warehouses of other trucks carrying the consignment of brooms were sealed.

DRI received information that three-four days ago, a consignment of heroin reached ICP Attari in the name of ordering brooms from Afghanistan. After this, the DRI team reached ICP Attari and was stopped. As a woman and two men accompanying her tried to clear the consignment, the DRI detained them.

During the investigation, 5.5 kg of heroin was recovered in about 4000 pieces in three broom bags filled with small pieces of sugarcane and bamboo. Its price is said to be around 38 crore rupees. Their ends were artificially sealed and labeled Afghan broom. At present the three have been arrested and raids are being conducted at various places to trace their network.

According to sources, the Afghan smuggler along with his wife forged Indian IDs to send the consignment of heroin and sent the consignment of brooms through her. It is being told that the Delhi Police arrested the said smuggler and his Indian wife in 2018 and registered a case against them under the NDPS Act.
