‘Don’t get a loss of 1100 crores behind 11 crores’!

Bureau report : In Jalandhar, these losses would not have happened with the water of Sutlej river, if the officials had accepted the words of Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal in time. He had warned the officials that a loss of 1100 crores would be made in the circle of 11 crores. In fact, the department living under the Gidarpindi railway station bridge in Shahkot, adjacent to the Sutlej river, did not clean it. Due to which the Mandala and Dhusi dam broke. Due to which 50 villages and farms were not completely submerged in water. The silt under the Gidarpindi railway bridge was not removed, which resulted in the loss of thousands of people. In order to clean it, Rajya Sabha MP Sant Sicheval had also held a meeting with the officials and had written a warning, but it was not taken seriously, the result of which is in front.

A video of a meeting of Sant Seechewal with the officials is also going viral. Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare was also present in this meeting. In which the officials were demanding 11 crores for cleaning. But Sant Sicheval explained to them that they should not lose 1100 crores in the cycle of 11 crores. Also, they were asking the department to prepare to lift the soil coming out of the river. They will use the soil in their own way. But the department should first carry out cleaning work from under the Gidarpindi railway bridge.

Only 3 channels are running.

According to the records of the Water Resources and Water Drainage Department, the officials were aware that only 3 of the 21 channels passing under the Gidarpindi railway bridge are operational. The rest were buried in the debris. A 12 to 13 feet high pile of silt was deposited in front of most of the channels. Due to which the flow of water was stopped.

As soon as the water came in the Sutlej, it became difficult to get the water out from under the bridge. Due to the shortness of the path, the water picked up speed and with this the Mandala and Dhusi Dam broke. This burst dam destroyed all the villages and brought floods.

Lessons not learned from 2019

There was a similar flood in the year 2019. At that time the situation was almost similar. In 2019, there was a loss of about 1200 crore rupees due to the increase in the water level of Sutlej. People’s houses and farms were destroyed. Three years later it is the same again, the government and officials have not learned anything from the floods in 2019. If the Water Resources and Water Drainage Department had done the cleaning work under the bridge, this situation would not have happened today.
