Covid-19 no longer a global health emergency: WHO

The World Health Organization has made a big announcement regarding the corona virus infection. WHO has downgraded the situation of corona virus and announced that corona infection has now ended as a global health emergency. WHO said that Corona no longer qualifies as a global emergency. The current situation marks the symbolic end of the global pandemic.

Addressing a press conference, WHO chief Dr Tedros said that Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency but that does not mean its global threat has ended. As we know thousands of people around the world are fighting for their lives in ICU. Millions of people are facing the after effects of Covid. WHO declared Corona a global health emergency in January 2020.

Tedros said – At the 15th meeting of the Emergency Committee, I was recommended to declare the end of the global health emergency of Covid-19 due to international concern.

On Friday, regarding the recent increase in the cases of corona virus in Southeast Asia and West Asia, WHO said that although the emergency period is over, the epidemic is not over yet. The WHO said thousands of people worldwide are still dying from the infection every week.

Lockdown was imposed in many countries of the world in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. The economy of not only India but the entire world has been affected due to the lockdown. Around 70 lakh people are estimated to have died due to corona infection worldwide.
