In the letter, the Chief Minister has told that on September 21, the government had appealed to you to intervene to release the RDF of 5637 crores from the Centre. In response to this, on September 22, you asked the Punjab government for the details of the loan. The government has taken a loan of 47,107 crores from 1 April 2022 to 31 August 2023. It includes not only market loans but also NABARD status. It also includes loan linked to the project sanctioned by the central government. The Chief Minister, while holding a press conference in Chamkaur Sahib, said that it would have been good if the Governor had demanded an account from the debt collectors as well.

‘Giving loan details for your government’

CM Bhagwant Mann while giving the figures of further investment of the loan amount told the Governor that it is clear that Rs 27,016 crore is going as interest only. Which your government has inherited. The government is funding the scheme and other institutions through loans and its own resources. Which was ignored by the previous governments. Apart from this, power subsidy, government schemes have also been mentioned. Information about the details of GST has also been given in it. Chief Minister Mann has also told that the previous governments had taken a loan of 3 lakh crores. He has also given information about the interest and installment to be given every month.

Also said to increase income

In a letter written to the Governor, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann gave an account of the debt of 47,107 crores and also gave information about the sources of increased income during his government. The Chief Minister said that our government is working 24 hours a day so that the development is fast as a result of which the GST in 2022-2023 has increased by 16.6 percent compared to the previous financial year. 2021-22 it was 15,542 crore which has increased to 18,128 crore. Excise has increased by 37 percent in 2022-23 compared to 2021-22. Earlier it was 6,157 crores which is now 8,437 crores. The vehicle tax has increased by 13 percent. It has increased from 2,359 to 2,674 in 2022-23 as compared to 2021-22. While stamp and registration has been increased by 28 percent. 4,227 crore in 2022-23 compared to 3,308 crore in 2021-22.

At the end of the letter written to the Governor, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote that I hope that from these figures you have come to know how much our government is facing the challenges of debt. I hope you will be able to convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi that not only the state government has paid back the debt but is also trying to bring the economy of the state back on track.
