Chlorine gas leaked in a residential area at Chowdheri village of Laldu in the afternoon. This gas leaked from a nearly 10-year-old cylinder lying on the tubewell. When the gas suddenly leaked, people started having difficulty breathing and burning eyes.

Due to gas leakage in the residential area, there was chaos in the village and people came out of their houses with their children. Two dozen people, including small children, were taken to the government hospital in Derabassi for treatment. Among them was a pregnant woman, who was referred to Chandigarh Sector 32 Hospital.

The people who reached the hospital said that when the motor of the water tubewell in the village broke down, the repair work was going on. Meanwhile, the 10-year-old cylinder with chlorine gas inside was taken out by the contractor, which started leaking. Holy holy gas started spreading and people started having difficulty breathing. On receiving the information, the fire brigade personnel from Derabassi reached the spot and controlled the situation after about 1 hour of struggle. The effect of the gas was stopped by immersing the chlorine gas cylinder in a water tank, after which the people breathed a sigh of relief.
