Chaudhary Charan Singh was the fifth Prime Minister of the country and Narasimha Rao was the ninth Prime Minister of the country. Swaminathan is called the father of Green Revolution.

PM Modi tweeted that it is the good fortune of our government that the former Prime Minister of the country Chaudhary Charan Singh ji is being honored with the Bharat Ratna. This honor is dedicated to his outstanding contribution to the country. He had dedicated his entire life for the rights and welfare of farmers.

As a noted scholar and politician, Narasimha Rao Guru served India extensively in various capacities. He is equally remembered for serving as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister and Member of Parliament and Legislative Assembly for many years. His visionary leadership played an important role in making India economically advanced and laying a strong foundation for the country's prosperity and development.

Jayant Chaudhary, grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief, wrote on the Prime Minister's announcement – Dil Jijah.
