Mayoral election is going to be held in Chandigarh today. Bharatiya Janata Party will face the alliance of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. The election will be held amid tight security.

Although it is still difficult to say which party will go for the three seats, it is certain that the Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress will not accept defeat easily in front of the 'India' alliance. Despite falling short of the four votes required for victory, till Monday night, BJP leaders were claiming that they would retain all three seats.

On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress leaders have also made full preparations to seat BJP in the opposition on the basis of 20 councillors. If the BJP manages to hold on to the opposition, it can re-elect its mayor with the help of a cross vote. If 'AAP' and Congress manage to keep their councilors together, then these three seats will easily go to the alliance.

On Tuesday, the municipal corporation released the program for the mayoral elections. The selection process will start at 10 am. Earlier, the mayoral election was started at 11 am. The first councilor Anil Masih nominated by the Joint Commissioner will be given the seat of the presiding officer.

After this, the first election will be for the Mayoral seat. After voting, the counting will begin and the Presiding Officer will announce the name of the winning candidate. After this, the Joint Commissioner will install the winning Mayor on the chair, then there will be an election for the Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Both these elections will be under the supervision of the new mayor and the names of both the winners will be announced after voting.
This will be the first time in the history of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, when no party leader and worker will be allowed to enter the corporation office to celebrate the victory in the mayoral election. Along with this, a limited number of officials will also be kept inside the house. Senior leaders of the city will be kept away from the election process.
