ENT Principal Director, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram in a news published in HT Dr. Atul Kumar Mittal says that these days the synthetic colors that people are using in Holi are very dangerous for humans. Many toxic metals, mica, glass like substances are mixed in these, which can not only cause ear, nose and throat, but can even become the cause of diseases like skin and asthma.

Earlier Holi was safe
Dr. Mittal says that in earlier times people used to play Holi with natural colors extracted from flowers, spices and trees etc., which had medicinal properties. These colors with medicinal properties were beneficial for the skin. Earlier, turmeric, indigo, henna etc. were used to make colours, which were not toxic and were also eco-friendly. If you use herbal colors then it can save us from many diseases.

Disadvantages of Camille color
Holi colors contain toxins which can cause ENT (ear, nose, throat) problems.
– The use of water balloons in Holi can also be harmful for our ears and eyes and accidents can happen.
Playing wet Holi with water-guns or water-filled balloons can cause ear damage. Water can enter the ear and there can be problems of itching, pain or blockage inside.
If water enters the ear, the tympanic membrane may burst and there may be severe pain in the ear. Apart from this, ear pain, bleeding from the ear, deafness, ringing in the ears, etc. can be symptoms. Surgery may have to be done for this.

Chemical colors can cause respiratory diseases. When thrown in the air, dry gulal contains heavy metals with 10μm (micron) particles which can enter the lungs and cause adverse health effects.
These dry chemical gulals can increase the problem by entering the respiratory tract with our mouth and breath and can aggravate conditions like asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
