CBI officials said that under ‘Operation Wheat 2’, CBI teams launched raids at the locations of grain traders, rice mill owners and retired and retired officials of FCI in several districts of Punjab including Sirhind, Fatehpur Sahib and Moga.
This is the second round of search by the CBI team in the FIR related to an organized syndicate of FCI officials. During the search, it was discovered that those who allegedly took bribes of Rs 1,000-4,000 per crop season from private mill owners to cover the substandard food grains unloaded at FCI warehouses and other manipulations.
CBI officials have alleged that bribes were allegedly distributed to officials at each level leading up to the headquarters in a well-defined percentage of the cut at each level.
The FIR details the collection of such bribes at various FCI depots across Punjab. Officers ranging from technical assistants to executive directors were allegedly part of a syndicate taking bribes from private millers, officials said.
The CBI has alleged, “The amount of bribe is collected at the depot level by FCI officials during the storage of food grains on the basis of each truck unloaded at the FCI depot. This bribe money is then distributed among various ranks of FCI.

It is being told that CBI teams have conducted operations in 30 places including Rajpura, Patiala, Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Sonam, Moga, Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Sangrur in Punjab on Tuesday morning.
