The Canadian government has decided to deport 700 Indian students at the request of Aam Aadmi Party MP Vikramjit Singh Sahni, who is also the International President of Vishwa Punjabi Sanstha.

Vikramjit Singh Sahni said on Friday that with the support of the Indian High Commission and their request, the Canadian government has decided to temporarily deport 700 students.

“We have written to them and we have explained to them that these students have not committed any forgery or fraud. They are victims of fraud as some unauthorized agents issued fake admit cards and payment receipts. Visas were also applied without any checks. When the children reached there, the immigration department also allowed them in,” said Vikram Sahne.

“The students have not done anything wrong. They are also victims of fraud,” he added.

Sahni also said that an inquiry committee will also be formed to investigate the matter.

Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal also wrote to Indian High Commissioner in Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma and Canadian High Commissioner in India Cameron Mackay on Friday to resolve the issue of 700 students.

According to the Punjab Information and Public Relations Department, Dhaliwal said in his letter, “Your attention is drawn to the impending deportation of over 700 students from Canada due to fake acceptance letters from Canadian colleges. These students are innocent and have been duped by a group of fraudsters including these travel agents, Canadian Embassy officials in India and other agencies in Canada.
