Bribe-taking sub-inspector caught by Vigilance

The Vigilance Bureau of Punjab on Monday caught Sub Inspector (SI) Kulwant Singh (No. 700/Amritsar City) posted at Economic Offenses Branch, Police Commissionerate Office, Amritsar, for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 during its relentless fight against corruption in the state. Manually controlled.

Expressing this here today, the spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the said accused SI has been arrested on the complaint filed by Suraj Mehta resident of Gopal Das Road, Amritsar. The complainant has approached the Vigilance Bureau and said that the said policeman is demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in exchange for joining the police investigation and helping in obtaining regular bail in this case after getting an interim stay on his father's arrest from the High Court.

The complainant told the Vigilance Bureau that the said constable had earlier accepted a bribe of Rs one lakh in the guise of helping him in a separate case filed by his father against partners in their joint firm.

The spokesman further said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team from Amritsar range laid a trap and caught SI Kulwant Singh red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. He said that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Amritsar Range against the said accused policeman and further investigation of the matter is going on.
