The Central Government has clamped down on 6 YouTube channels broadcasting pro-Khalistan content. Taking action against these channels, the Modi government has blocked them. It is reported by PTI that the central government has blocked 6 channels broadcasting pro-Khalistani content on YouTube.

Promoting pro-Khalistan sentiments: These YouTube channels, which allegedly promoted pro-Khalistan sentiments, were blocked within 48 hours of the Central Government’s request. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apoorva Chandra said that six to eight YouTube channels being operated from abroad have been blocked in the last 10 days. Chandra said that these channels used to serve their content in Punjabi language. They were trying to create tension in the border state.

The pro-Khalistan organization had attacked the police station: Let me tell you, recently supporters of Jathedar Amritpal Singh of Waris Punjab De, a pro-Khalistan organization, attacked a police station in Ajnala, Punjab. The supporters created a lot of ruckus in the police station. Let me tell you, all the supporters were armed and they were demanding the release of one of their comrades.

Appeal to use artificial intelligence: In this case, an official said that the government has asked YouTube to remove anti-India content and also take action against the channels broadcasting such content. Another official told that YouTube is taking action within 48 hours on the government’s request regarding ‘blocking’ the channel.

He told that the government has urged YouTube to use artificial intelligence and mathematical methods to automatically identify objectionable content and ‘block’ it. However, YouTube is facing problems in the Indian context as content is being ‘uploaded’ in regional languages and the system put in place to verify content is based on the English language.
