While after the issue of tobacco in the food came to light, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht and Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh of Damdama Sahib took strict notice. Jathedar Raghbir Singh reprimanded the Punjab and Assam government and said that earlier the Sikh prisoners were kept inside under the strict law of NSA and now they are being given food with tobacco, the Sikh community will never tolerate this. He had directed to investigate it and punish the accused. Apart from this, permission was sought to make a separate langar for the Sikh prisoners. No statement from the prison administration has come out on this. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami and father Tarsem Singh also expressed concern about the health of Sikh prisoners.

Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh made a big statement about the health of his son and other Sikh prisoners. He said that the condition of the Sikh prisoners is deteriorating and they should be given medical facilities, which was supported by the President of the Shiromani Committee, Harjinder Singh Dhami. He said that the Punjab government should pay attention to health facilities, because it is the basic right of every prisoner.
