Chandigarh: On the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, it has been decided to increase the salaries of outsourced coaches working in the state by two to two and a half times as part of the efforts being made to create a sports culture in the state.

In this regard, Sports Minister Meet Hare said that the monthly salary of Executive Coach-2 posted in all the districts of the state under the Sports Department and Punjab State Sports Council has been increased from Rs.17,733 to Rs.35,000, and the salary of Executive Coach-1 has been increased from Rs.16,893 to Rs.30,000. It has been decided to increase the salary of the Executive Coach from Rs.11,917 to Rs.25,000 per month. Apart from this, the salary of all coaches will also be increased by 3 percent annually.

The sports minister further said that the coaches posted on outsourcing in the state were demanding to increase their salary for a long time. After the matter came to the attention of the Chief Minister, he immediately decided to approve the demand. Under this decision, the salary of coaches working on outsourcing has been increased by two to two and a half times per month. This decision will be effective from 18 September 2023.

Meet Hare said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has opened its coffers for sports and sportsmen. Punjab players have consistently performed well in the Hangzhou Asian Games and have won five gold medals since the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. Apart from increasing prize money of players, cash for preparation, scholarship scheme, awards have been started for coaches and sports promoters. Now, fulfilling the long-standing demand of coaches, their salaries have been significantly increased.
