United World Wrestling (UWW) has revoked the membership of the Indian Wrestling Federation. This is being considered as a big blow for Indian wrestling players. This action has been taken due to non-election of the Wrestling Federation of India. United World Wrestling had written to the Indian Wrestling Federation on May 30 saying that if there is no election for the Indian Wrestling Federation in the next 45 days (by July 15), United World Wrestling’s membership would be suspended.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections till August 28. The High Court has imposed this restriction on the petition of Haryana Kushti Sangh (HWA). The union elections were to be held on August 12. The association alleges that another association has been allowed to participate in the election in their stead, even though it belongs to the WFI and the Haryana Olympic Association.

United World Wrestling had warned on April 28 that it could suspend the Indian Wrestling Federation if the deadline for holding elections was not respected. The UWW informed the ad hoc committee on Wednesday night that the WFI has been suspended for not holding its executive committee elections.”
Originally, the Wrestling Federation of India elections were supposed to be held on May 7 but the Sports Ministry declared the process invalid. Various state wrestling associations have approached the court regarding participation in the elections. This is the reason why the wrestling association elections are getting delayed.
