Giving this information, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that this (CASO) operation was carried out in all 28 police districts, in which, NIA raided 58 hideouts of gangsters with the help of Punjab Police. Meanwhile, Punjab Police conducted Search and Investigation Operation (CASO) at 143 locations of gangsters and anti-social elements. Meanwhile, at least 125 parties of the Punjab Police, comprising more than 1,200 police personnel, carried out the operation.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that instructions were given to the CPJ/SSP to personally supervise these raids and to prepare adequate number of police teams so that raids can be conducted at different places simultaneously. He said the raid was planned after interrogation of recently arrested gangsters and criminals.

Disclosing further details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that police teams have conducted thorough searches of houses and other premises, and also collected data from mobile phones and other electronic devices, which will be used for forensic analysis. Will be sent for investigation. He said that police teams have also been asked to take stock of the status of criminals/gangsters to find out whether he is in jail, on bail, acquitted or absconding.

The Special DGP said that several other persons have also been detained for further investigation and incriminating materials have been seized from their possession. Further inquiries are being made in this regard.

He said that the police teams also checked the ammunition licenses and also questioned the people about the sourcing of ammunition. In addition, travel details of foreign-based family members, bank transactions from abroad and Western Union and property details were collected for further investigation. The police teams also checked the vehicles stationed at the hideouts and verified their registration numbers through the ‘Vahan’ mobile app.

It may be mentioned that the objective of the operation was to torpedo the alliance of anti-social elements, who continue to make desperate attempts to disrupt the hard-earned peace of the state. Such raids help instill a sense of security among the general public as well as instill fear of the police among anti-social elements.
