These groups had submitted a memorandum to the local police on Friday, requesting them not to allow the programme. In view of protests by anti-superstition organisations, the local police issued a notice to the organizers asking them to ensure that Shastri does not make any provocative remarks during the programme.

Congress had demanded Shastri’s entry into Maharashtra
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and MLA Jitendra Awhad said in a tweet that it is unfortunate that the discourse of a person who insulted Sant Tukaram Maharaj in Maharashtra. Congress’ Maharashtra unit chief Nana Patole had recently written to the state government, urging that Shastri not be allowed to enter the state. The Congress leader accused him of insulting Tukaram Maharaj and angering lakhs of his devotees.
Dhirendra Shastri is in controversy regarding his miracle
Popularly known as Bageshwar Dham Sarkar, Shastri has a large number of followers in Madhya Pradesh as well as in other parts of the country. Maharashtra’s rationalist Shyam Manav challenged him to prove his miracles a few months ago. Dhirendra Shastri has been accused of spreading blind faith. Shastri claims to drive away ghosts, about which there are also controversies. He has also been accused of treating cancer and promoting untouchability.
