Astronomers Catch Radio Signals From An Exoplanet of Earth like Size

Astronomers have discovered a planet similar in size to Earth and the star around which it is revolving. It is about 12 light years away from Earth. Astronomers say that this planet may also have a magnetic field and atmosphere.

Earth’s magnetic field helps protect the atmosphere and sustain life by deflecting high-energy particles and plasma from the Sun, in addition to pointing compass needles in the north. Researchers believe that there is a possibility of magnetic field on this exoplanet called YZ Ceti. Published in the journal Nature Astronomy Report Astronomers Sebastian Pineda and Jackie Villadsen from the University of Colorado and Bucknell University in the US have detected continuous radio signals from YZ Ceti. These astronomers used the radio telescope Karl G Jansky present in the National Radio Astronomy Observatory of the National Science Foundation of America.

“The potential for a planet to have an atmosphere depends on whether the planet has a strong magnetic field,” Pineda explained. For the first time, Jackie detected the radio signal coming out of it. “We saw it initially, and its reappearance was a big sign that there might be something out there,” Pineda said. Astronomers say that the interaction between the magnetic field of this exoplanet and the star it is orbiting is causing strong radio raves. He told that in order to catch such a wave from a long distance, it is necessary for them to be very strong.

Recently the American Space Agency NASA WR’s James Webb Space Telescope captured a puzzling image of WR 124, a rare Wolf-Mayet star exploding or going supernova. This star is about 30 times the size of our Sun. The outer layers of this star are visible. This has resulted in a large amount of dust and other material which is causing glare. An explosion in a star during its cycle is called a supernova. NASA officials had said, “Only a few of the big stars reach such a phase before becoming supernova. It is very important for astronomers to understand the mysteries of space.”
