ASI arrested on charges of taking bribe from vigilance

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ram Prakash posted at Pathara police station in Jalandhar district on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.

The accused ASI has been arrested on the complaint of Jasvir Singh Judge, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar village Kaki. Jasveer Singh runs a dairy farm at village Kanganiwal.

Giving information in this regard, the official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the complainant approached the Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar Range and filed a complaint that he had registered an IPC against Gurpreet Singh and others on May 13, 2022 at Pathara Police Station. A case was registered under Sections 323, 341, 149 of the IPC and pressure was being put on him by the other party to compromise in this matter.

He further stated that Gurpreet Singh and his brother Amanpreet Singh came to his dairy farm on 27-09-2022 and beat him up. After this, Gurpreet Singh filed an IPC against him (Jasveer Singh) and his son Jastej Singh at Patara police station. Fake FIR under section 323, 324, 326, 506, 148, 149 No. 78 dated 5-10-2022 registered.

Complainant’s father Karnail Singh SSP against the fake case registered against his grandson Jastej Singh. Jalandhar (Rural) and filed an application in the office of Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh as her grandson went to college on 27-09-2022.
On this application ASI Ram Prakash was assigned the investigation of FIR No. 78 dated 5-10-2022. Accused ASI F.I.R. demanded Rs 2 lakh to get Jastej’s name out of it but after repeated requests he agreed to take Rs 30,000.

The spokesperson said that after the preliminary investigation of the complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau Jalandhar laid a trap and arrested the accused ASI. He was arrested on the spot by accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant in the presence of government witnesses.

In this regard, the accused A.S.I. Under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act against Ram Prakash, FIR No. at Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar Range. A case has been registered under 17 dated 20-07-2023.
