Arrested 154 persons who disturbed peace in the state: IGP Sukhchain Gill

Hours after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann thanked the people of the state for supporting the state government’s action to maintain law and order in Punjab, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill. He has assured that the situation in the state is completely stable and under control.

He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has received many calls from Punjab and the entire country, who have thanked him for saving the youth of Punjab.

IGP Addressing the press conference, Sukhchain Singh Gill said that a total of 154 persons have been arrested on charges of disturbing the peace in the state.

He said that a Lookout Circular (LOC) and Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) have been issued against fugitive Amritpal Singh and continuous efforts are on to arrest him. He said that Punjab Police is getting full support from other states and central agencies in this operation.

While sharing different pictures of Amritpal, IGP urged people to provide information about the fugitive.

Giving more information in this regard, IGP Jalandhar Rural Police recovered a Brezza car (PB02-EE-3343), which was used by Amritpal on March 18, when police teams intercepted his convoy, said. was chasing and the police have also arrested four accused.

The arrested persons have been identified as Manpreet Singh alias Manna (28) son of Harvinder Singh resident of Nawan Qila Shahkot, Gurdeep Singh alias Deepa (34) son of Mukhtiar Singh of village Ball Nau, Nakodar, Harpreet Singh alias Happy (36) son of Nirmal Singh resident of village Kotla Nodh. Singh, Hoshiarpur and Gurbhaj Singh alias Mikhha, son of Balveer Singh, resident of village Gondara, Faridkot. He said that these four accused had helped Amritpal to escape.

He said that it has also come to light that Amritpal Singh and his companions changed their clothes in a Gurdwara Sahib of village Nangal Ambian and escaped from there on two motorcycles.

IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that the police teams have also arrested Kulwant Singh Rauke of village Rauke of Moga and Gurinderpal Singh alias Guri Aujla of Kapurthala and taken them into custody under the National Security Act.

IGP said that the Jalandhar rural police arrested Amritpal’s uncle Harjit Singh resident of Kallu Khera, Amritsar and his driver Harpreet Singh resident of village Madoke, Moga for trespassing and Manpreet Singh, sarpanch of village Udowal, Mehtpur, Jalandhar for more than two days. The house has registered a new FIR on the charge of sheltering at gunpoint. Both the accused came in their Mercedes car (HR72E1818). In this regard, FIR no. 28 dated 20.3.2023 IPC has been registered at Police Station Mehtpur under Sections 449, 342, 506 and 34 and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

The IGP also said that the dharna at Mohali has also been lifted. He said that 37 persons have been taken into custody.
