Army's big rescue operation in Sikkim, more than 800 tourists saved.

Indian Army personnel on Wednesday rescued over 800 tourists stranded in high-altitude areas in East Sikkim. According to officials, these tourists, including elderly, women and children, were stranded in different areas of East Sikkim due to snowfall and bad weather. As soon as the information was received, the soldiers of the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army took immediate action and rescued the stranded tourist.

Officials said that all the tourists are being taken to safe places. They are being given accommodation, warm clothes, medical assistance and hot food. The soldiers vacated their barracks to accommodate the stranded tourists. With the immediate action of the army, the tourists got a lot of relief. If the weather is fine, the tourists will be brought to the capital Gangtok on Thursday.

He said that suddenly in the afternoon the weather changed and it started raining. As soon as the mercury fell, it started snowing in the higher areas of the state. Vehicular traffic came to a standstill due to snowfall and tourists visiting Changu-Nathula, a tourist destination in East Sikkim, were stranded on the way. The rescue operation carried out by the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army continued till late night, the Indian Army said in a press release.
