Bureau report : On Saturday, the Hon’ble Cabinet approved the new sports policy of the state, after which Sports Minister Meet Hare has released its details. In the new sports policy of the state government, announcing the gaffes of cash prizes, paved the way for awards for players and coaches and jobs for players. Starting from the construction of sports nurseries, centers equipped with state-of-the-art facilities will be built in every village of the state. Highlights of the new sports policy

  1. The prize money of the gold, silver and bronze medal winners in the Olympic Games has been increased, earlier the gold medalist got 2.5 crores, now they will get 3 crores. It has been given, 1 crore will be given to the player who won the silver medal, now also 1 crore will be given.

  2. Earlier, about 25 sports and medal winners were given cash prizes, but now the number has been increased to more than 80.

  3. In the new sports competitions, Special Olympics, Deaf Olympics, Para World Games, 75, 50 and 30 lakh rupees will be given to the winners.

  4. Badminton’s Thomas Cup, Ober Cup, WWF World Tour Finals (Rs. 75, 50 and 40 lakhs) will be given to the winners.

  5. All Grand Slams of Tennis (Rs. 75, 50 and 40 Lakhs) will be awarded as prizes to the winners.

  6. (75, 50 and 40 lakh rupees) will be given in Azlan Shah Hockey Cup

  7. The decision to give recognized tournaments (75, 50 and 40 lakh rupees) of Diamond League and recognized international organizations has been made in the new sports policy.

  8. Winners of Deaf World Cup, Blind World Cup (Rs. 60, 40 and 20 lakhs), Youth Olympic Games (Rs. 50, 30 and 20 lakhs) will be awarded.

  9. Provision of 500 posts in special cadre for medal winning players, including 40 Deputy Directors, 92 Senior Coaches, 138 Coaches and 230 Junior Coaches.

  10. Punjab has only 309 coaches compared to 2017 coaches in Haryana and 2360 coaches are proposed as per the new sports policy.

  11. It has been decided to start awards for coaches and promoters for the first time like players. The coaches will now get the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior Coach Award which will include a prize money of Rs 5 lakh, a trophy and a blazer. Similarly, Milkha Singh Award for Sports Promoters/Organization is being started for any private organization or individual promoting sports. The prize money will include Rs 5 lakh, memento, blazer and certificate.

  12. Keeping physical fitness in mind, playgrounds will be established at the village level keeping in view the local needs. Provision will be made to give 25 percent of the total budget as a one-time matching grant of Rs 10 lakh per village.

  13. 1000 cluster level sports nurseries with better coaching, sports equipment and refreshments will be set up. At Rs 25 lakh per nursery, it will have a total budget of Rs 250 crore.

  14. District sports infrastructure with 200 sports hostels in each district to prepare sportspersons for national level competitions.

  15. There will be a total capacity of 5000 players across the state with a budget of Rs 250 crore. State level centers equipped with state-of-the-art facilities are to be established. Apart from Jalandhar, Mahilpur, the district level structure of Mohali, Patiala, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Amritsar is to be upgraded to state level.

  16. Cash prize money was announced for the first time only for the preparation of international level sports competitions. 15 lakh for Olympic Games and Paralympics, Deaflympics, Special Olympics, World Championship and World Cup, Asian Games, Para Asian and Deaf Asian Games, Commonwealth, Para and Deaf Commonwealth Games, 8 lakh each for World Games to be held after four years. Rs.7 lakh for Special Olympics, Rs.6 lakh for ICC World Cup, World Test Championship, Twenty-20 World Cup and Blind World Cup, Rs.5 lakh for annual World Championship and Afro-Asian Games, Youth Olympics , 4 lakh rupees for Asian and Commonwealth Championships, 3 lakh rupees for SAFE Games and SAFE Championship, 1 lakh rupees for World University Games, Youth Commonwealth Games, World Junior Games and Championship.
