New Delhi. Delhi AIIMS will buy medicine from abroad for a child suffering from kidney disease. On the request of the child’s mother, the Delhi High Court itself has given this decision by preparing a public interest litigation. This is a unique case of its kind in the country. The Delhi High Court has asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, to procure the injection required for the treatment of a four-year-old boy suffering from a kidney-related ailment. Please tell that this child is suffering from a disease called ‘Horseshoe Kidney’. In this disease, the lower ends of the kidneys are joined before the birth of the child.

A two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Satish Chandra Sharma gave this decision on Tuesday in view of the condition of the child. The High Court has asked to buy injection for the child immediately or import it from abroad. The child’s father does a private job. In such a situation, the child comes under the purview of the Employees Health Insurance Scheme. ESIC is also ready to pay the expenses for the treatment of the child. However, the injection needed for treatment is not available in India. In such a situation, the High Court has ordered AIIMS to buy Dexel injection from abroad for the treatment of the child.

Let us tell you that only last week the Delhi High Court had received an email, in which one of its women had pleaded to save the child’s life. This order of the High Court has come on the basis of an email received by the Registrar General of the court. In the e-mail, the child’s mother had complained to the court that an injection called Dexel was not available in the country and was not being provided to her by AIIMS, putting her child’s life in danger.

The child’s mother did not plead
In the email, the child’s mother had told that Delhi AIIMS had sent her to get the injection from the ESI dispensary in Nand Nagri. But, the dispensary sent him back to AIIMS saying that this injection could not be procured as it was not available in the country. Delhi High Court had also asked ESIC to file a reply in this regard. ESIC informed the court that the only reason for refusing to procure the injection was its non-availability in India.

In such a situation, the counsel for ESIC urged Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma to direct AIIMS to buy the injection in front of a two-judge bench. ESIC’s lawyer assured to pay the full cost of its purchase, on which AIIMS’s lawyer agreed to this proposal. After this, the court passed an order to AIIMS Delhi to buy medicines from abroad without delay.
