Government colleges in Ontario are going to make new rules after the disclosure of fraud in the admission of foreign students in Canada. Its aim is to ensure the safety of female students admitted here from other countries including India in search of education and better career.

These rules will apply to providing correct information to the female students and marketing and admission process of the colleges. The new rules are planned to be implemented by June 2024. This decision has been taken at a time when there are reports of 700 Indian female students in Canada being sent back after their student visas were found to be fake.

These students had applied for a study visa through the Jalandhar-based Education Migration Service. These students went on student visa 3 to 4 years ago. The forgery was discovered when he applied for a job. Linda Franklin, president and CEO of Ontario Colleges, said international students need to provide accurate information at the time of admission. There is a need to make concrete rules for this.

Colleges are required by law to market themselves

Colleges that sign up to the new rules and standards need to make sure their marketing materials comply with the law. Do Not Mislead This will include providing correct information to the students as well as not making unfounded promises like guarantee of employment.

The college management will also have to keep an eye on their agents so that they do not take admissions on false information. There will also be a provision to cancel the license of the agent doing so. These rules will be applicable to government as well as private and PPP mode colleges.

About 40 percent of foreign students are Indians

According to the Canadian Bureau for International Education, there were 8,07,750 foreign students in Canada last year. This is 43% more than 5 years ago. 40% of them are Indians. This is followed by 12% Chinese students. More than half of these international students study in Ontario.
