One such cyber fraud incident happened to a woman from Thane, Maharashtra, who invested in the name of Bitcoin after seeing an advertisement on Facebook and the criminals cheated her of around Rs 27 lakh. According to the report, this woman, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra, had seen an advertisement on Facebook last month.

That ad claimed that investing $500 (roughly Rs. 41,556) in Bitcoin would give you a return of $4800 (roughly Rs. 3,98,940). A contact number was also given with this advertisement which was a mobile number from England. When the woman called the number, the accused said that he was from Belgium and claimed to earn huge returns by investing in Bitcoin.

According to the information received from the police, the woman said that the accused asked her to download an app and create her profile on it. The accused took some fake screenshots and made the woman believe that she was investing her money in the right place and would get guaranteed returns. After this, the accused asked the woman to buy bitcoins worth 50 thousand rupees from a person. The victim had bought bitcoins through internet banking.
