On October 10, when the lawyers of the Punjab government did not appear in the court, Justice Anup Chitkara asked Khaira to file a separate bail application. Khaira’s son Mehtab Singh Khaira has said that he has filed a petition for his father’s bail and it will be heard on Monday.
Sukhpal Singh Khaira was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in 2021 on charges of money laundering in a 2015 drug case. The High Court had granted him bail in the same case. In February this year, the Supreme Court rejected the summons against Khaira in the drugs case. Sukhpal Singh Khaira was saying that his arrest was wrong only through these two orders of the High Court and the Supreme Court. He said that when the biggest court of the country has decided in his favor, how can he be arrested again in the same case. Based on this, Sukhpal Singh Khaira filed a recent petition in the Punjab Haryana High Court.
However, when Sukhpal Singh Khaira was arrested, the SIT said that some evidence has come before us which has been presented in the court after which Khaira was arrested. In the same year, the Punjab government formed a three-member team under the DIG against Khaira in the drug case. The Punjab government argued that the Supreme Court has not stayed the investigation. On Tuesday, the Jalalabad court once again sent Khaira to police remand for 2 days. Now it is also coming out that the SIT has made the money laundering investigation against Khaira the basis of ED. In which it is claimed that Sarpanch Gurdev Singh, who was arrested in 2015 in a drug case, used to fund Sukhpal Singh Khaira. After Gurdev’s arrest, Sukhpal Singh Khaira used to talk to his sister several times on their PA phone.
