Is the matter related to Vinod Adani not worthy of investigation by SEBI and ED, Congress questions Modi government

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday once again hit out at the government over the case involving the Adani Group and questioned whether the case involving Vinod Adani, brother of industrialist Gautam Adani, was worth probing by the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Although he has been at the center of financial transactions involving this business group.

As in the past few days, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posed a few questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday as part of the party’s ‘Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun’ series. He said, “Adani Group said on January 29 last that Vinod Adani does not have a managerial role in any listed entity of Adani Group or company owned by him and he has no interference in the day-to-day work.”

Ramesh claimed, “Despite this claim of Adani Group, this business group has repeatedly given information in ‘public filing’ that Vinod Adani is an integral part of this group.” Similar information was given in a document filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange in 2020. He asked, “Why is your (Prime Minister) friend lying to the investors and public like this openly? Have you used the agencies you have left behind in the investigation against your capitalist friends, political parties, media and businessmen who do not listen to you?

Ramesh also asked, “Isn’t it ridiculous that the Adani group has distanced itself from Vinod Adani?” Citing a report in ‘Forbes’ magazine, he questioned whether the matter did not deserve investigation by SEBI and ED. It is notable that the Adani group has rejected the allegations made in the Hindenburg report.
