A major accident took place in Chhinj fair in Sarchur village of Batala. Stuntman Sukhmandeep Singh, who was doing stunts, died after being hit by a tractor. He was about 29 years old. While performing a stunt, Sukhmandeep Singh fell under his own tractor.
Sukhmandeep Singh, a resident of Halka Fatehpur Churidi, was the only son of his parents and Sukhmandeep Singh had actively participated in the Kisan March. After the death of Sukhmandeep, the organizers of the fair announced the cancellation of the fair.
According to the information, Chinjh Mela was going on in the playground of village Sarchur, during which Sukhmandeep Singh Thattha reached the fair late at night to perform stunts with his tractor. Sukhmanjit Singh raised the front wheel of his tractor, got down from the tractor running with the rear tires pressed into the dirt and started walking alongside the tractor.
But the tractor got out of control and started running towards the people watching the fair. As soon as Sukhmanjit Singh went near the tractor to control it, he got hit by the uncontrollable tractor. Meanwhile, two people standing nearby tried to pull Sukhmanjit out from under the tractor, but by then Sukhmanjit had died. After the incident, the organizers of the fair have announced the end of the fair.
