CM Mann said that during the first round of talks between the central government and the farmers, an agreement was reached on various issues. Apart from Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityanand, the Chief Minister and representatives of various farmer unions were present in this meeting.

The Chief Minister said that in the first round of talks, a general consensus has been reached regarding the withdrawal of cases registered against farmers during the agitation against the Agrarian Acts. He said that the discussion took place in a comfortable environment and the Union Ministers have given their in-principle approval to sympathetically consider the demands of the farmers.

Bhagwant Mann said that exemplary punishment was demanded against the producers of fake seeds so that the interests of grain producers could be protected and the issue of paddy stubble burning was also strongly raised.

CM Mann strongly presented farmers' issues and emphasized on the continuation of minimum support price on crops, saying that safeguarding the interests of farmers is the prime need of the hour. He said that withdrawal of minimum support price is only speculation of economists who are sitting in their comfortable offices in the national capital without considering the ground realities. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that any such move to close the minimum support price would endanger the food security of the country and would not be in the interest of the country in any way.

Discussing another issue, the Chief Minister also emphasized on giving a big boost to crop diversification in the country as it would prove beneficial for the people.

He said that India imports pulses from countries like Mozambique, but if the farmers get remunerative prices, they can produce these pulses here. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this will save the country, besides taking the farmers out of the cycle of paddy, it will also save the precious water of the state.

Deeply thanking the central government and the farmers for holding talks to discuss the farmers' issues, the Chief Minister said that this is the right and appropriate forum to resolve the issues. He said that we also do not want agitation on these issues, rather these issues should be resolved through bilateral talks. Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed hope that in the future there will be more such discussions in the larger interests of farmers and people.
