A major vigilance operation, BDPO arrested on the charge of taking bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday arrested the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) posted at Block Mamdot, Ferozepur on charges of soliciting and accepting bribe. The accused demanded a bribe from the village sarpanch, when he refused, the accused used to delay the approval of village works. The accused has been identified as Sarabjit Singh. Vigilance has registered a case.

The spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that after the investigation, the accused BDPO. has been caught red-handed while taking bribes. Sarpanch Pipal Singh of Village Kothe Kili Wala of Block Mamdot, Sarpanch of Village Muhammad Khan Niazian Parhat Singh, Sarpanch Anok Singh of Village Gatti Mastan No. 2, Sarpanch Paramjit Kaur of Village Chak Amrik Singh Wala Gurbachan Singh, Sarpanch Sarjit Singh, Sarpanch Gatti Masta No. 01 and Paramjit Singh Sarpanch village Kot Bishan Singh Manawala testified before the investigating officer. He said that the said BDPO had taken bribe from the panchayat before and after the work was done.

He alleged that if he was not bribed, he would delay in approving the works of the village. During the investigation, it was also recorded that Sarpanch Jaswant Singh transferred Rs 30 thousand and Rs 5,000 twice through Google Pay from his ICICI Bank on the mobile app of BDPO Sarabjit Singh in return for the work done on Zero Line in village Basti Doola Singh. done

The said Sarpanch further alleged that he had recently transferred another Rs.10,000 to the account of BDPO in lieu of carrying out development works in the said village. The complainant said that till now they were giving bribe to the said officer due to fear and helplessness but now they don't want to get the work done by paying bribe.

The complainant has submitted screenshots of payment and bank account details as evidence to the Vigilance Bureau. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him at the Vigilance Police Station Ferozepur Range, holding the BDPO guilty in the case of asking and accepting bribes from Sarpanches. He will be produced in the honorable court tomorrow and further questioning is being done in this regard.
