Bureau report : The situation got out of control in Desh Bhagat University of Amloh in Fatehgarh Sahib. A sharp clash took place between the nursing students and the Punjab Police. Most of the female students were in burka, the police even used lathi charge to control them. The female students also fought fiercely with the police. The protesting girls alleged that the college has cheated us. We were protesting for many days but no one is ready to listen. The girl students alleged that the police were supporting the university and the police of Fatehgarh and Patiala 2 districts were deployed to stop them from demonstrating.
It is being told that nursing students staged a dharna outside the secretariat of the vice chancellor of the university. When the police came to remove them, they vandalized them. The police resorted to baton-charge and students were also pelted with stones.
The degree was not awarded on completion of the course
Nursing students in Desh Bhagat University are alleging that the university is not recognized by the Indian Nursing Council. Only Punjab Nursing Council had 60 seats. The enrollment was more than 150. Now that the course is over, the degree is not being awarded. The future of students is at stake.
SP Rakesh Yadav of Fatehgarh said that we are explaining to the students, the talks are also going on with the management and we are trying to resolve this issue soon. The girls who are performing mostly seem to be from South Indian states, they are wearing burqas.
