According to CBS Miami, the incident happened Monday evening in the 1200 block of N Broadwalk, with at least three minor victims among the injured.
A person has been arrested and may be on the run in any case after a suspicious incident.
Hollywood officials said the incident began with a fight between two groups, which escalated as shots were fired.
“Please avoid the area of Johnson to Garfield Streets, as well as Broadwalk, due to the ongoing shooting investigation. Heavy police deployment in the area. If you are trying to reunite with a family member, we have set up a reunification area at Johnson St. and the N Ocean Bus Loop,” the Hollywood Police Department tweeted.
Hollywood Beach is a popular beach destination about 11 miles south of Post Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami.
Memorial Healthcare System spokeswoman Yanet Obario Sanchez informed NBC6 that anywhere from one to five victims are being treated at Memorial Regional Hospital’s trauma center.
“It’s a fluid situation,” Sanchez said, adding that “some minors” were among the injured.
A live camera feed from the city’s boardwalk showed many terrified seafarers fleeing the area.
