50 more public sand quarries to start soon: Meet Hare

Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will soon start 50 new public quarries to provide sand to the people at a cheap price. The decision in this regard was taken during a high level meeting chaired by Minister for Mining Gurmeet Singh Meet Khair.

Presiding over the meeting to review the functioning of public sand quarries, the minister said that currently 32 public quarries are functioning in the state, which are benefiting the people on a large scale. He said that the number of these quarries will be increased as the state government will soon start 50 new public quarries across the state. Meet Hare said that sand is being provided at the rate of Rs 5.50 per cubic foot at these public quarries.

The minister said that these public ditches have received a great response from the people. He said that local workers have also got work with them, due to which many youths have been provided direct and indirect employment. Meet Hare also said that as per the policy approved by the Cabinet recently, tenders will also be issued by the department for clusters of commercial mining sites every 15 days.

The Minister of Mines said that the department has already issued tenders for 14 clusters on 21.03.23. He said that in the next three months, the government will call for tenders for about 100 clusters. Meet Hare said the government is regularly seeking feedback from the public and reviewing the work of each public site to ensure proper functioning.

In the meeting Principal Secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Director DPS. Kharbanda, SE and District Mining Officer were present.
