Shahkot: Along Sutlej River in Punjab, Dhusi Dam broke at two places in Lohian area of Jalandhar’s Shahkot Sub-Division in Lache’s channa. According to information, 24-year-old Arshdeep of village Mundi Cholia in Shahkot area drowned near Mandala at 12 midnight due to rising water. According to the people present at the spot, the boy was trying to save his motorcycle from overturning but he himself also overturned. According to people, the motorcycle was taken out, but no trace of Arshdeep could be found and it is feared that the boy may have died.
Along with this, the NDRF team is continuing the campaign since late night to evacuate the people. Meanwhile, in view of the danger of rising water in the Sutlej, the administration has started a campaign to evacuate 50 flood-affected villages of Shahkot subdivision.
It is believed that the sand level is higher near it and hence the water level rises due to leaving the triangle. Member of Parliament Balbir Singh Seechewal had raised the issue of sand extraction from here during the meeting held at Chandigarh regarding flood preparations, but the sand could not be extracted.
Due to continuous rain in the hilly areas, the rivers in Himachal Pradesh have started to take a violent form. The gates of Bhakra Dam have also been opened due to rising water level in the rivers. Due to which there is a flow of three lakh cusecs of water in Sutlej river. Due to this, there is a risk of floods in the villages on the banks of Sutlej.
