Xiaomi remains on top despite drop in Indian smartphone shipments

Upasana Joshi, Research Manager, IDC, said that the decrease in new launches in the category of less than Rs 12,000 has affected the sales.

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi achieved the number one position in the market for the December quarter as well as on an annual basis. However, there has been a major decline in the company’s shipments on a year-on-year basis. Xiaomi’s market share stood at 18.6 percent in the December quarter and 21 percent on an annual basis. Xiaomi’s shipments declined by 38.3 percent during October-December and by about 25 percent on an annual basis.

The company recently sold over one million devices in India during the Republic Day sale. Xiaomi has smartphones and other devices in almost every price segment and category. India is one of the big markets for the company. Xiaomi’s Republic Day Sale lasted from 26 to 30 January. During this sale, the company offered discounts on its products. The company has told that it has sold more than 10 lakh products in Republic Day. However, the company did not provide information on how many units of each product were sold. Xiaomi makes everything from smartphones to smart TVs. The company’s Redmi smartphones sell more in India. Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 12 series. It is getting good response.
