Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram of Sonipat, Haryana became the team champion of Panjab University Chandigarh in the Northern Regional Inter University Women’s Lawn Tennis Competition played at University of Science and Technology Murthal. Panjab University Chandigarh beat Punjabi University Patiala 2-0. Punjabi University Patiala team was runner up. Four semi-finalists have qualified for the All India Inter University competition.
The winners were awarded by Rajni Anait, the first woman engineer of the university. He said that there was no dearth of talent among the daughters of the country. She is making the country famous internationally in every field. Nowadays girls are not behind in any field. Congratulating the winners, she said that the girls have excelled in the Northern Regional Lawn Tennis Tournament which has given them this success.
Sports Director Dr. Birender Singh Hooda said that the final match of North Regional Inter Women’s Lawn Tennis Tournament was played on Friday between Punjab University Chandigarh and Punjabi University Patiala. Himashikha Singh of Panjab University Chandigarh defeated Smriti of Punjabi University Patiala 6-2, 6-0.
Simran Pritam of PU Chandigarh defeated Pooja of PU, Patiala 6-1, 6-2. Punjab University Chandigarh beat PU Patiala 2-0 while Punjabi University Patiala emerged runners up. He said that for third and fourth place MDU, Rohtak and JMI would win. A match was played between Delhi. Ritu of MDU Rohtak defeated Deepshikha of JMI Delhi 6-2, 6-0 while Nancy Malik of MDU, Rohtak defeated JMI, Delhi Beat Lisa 6-1, 6-2. He said that the four teams playing in the semi-finals have already qualified for the All India Women’s Lawn Tennis Tournament. Meanwhile, Academic Dean Prof. Vijay Sharma, Prof. Surinder Dahiya, Prof. Sukhdeep Singh, Prof. Suman Sangwan, Prof. Pawan Dahiya, Panjab University Chandigarh Coach Birbal Vadhera was present.
