World Happiness Report: Every year on March 20, the world celebrates the World Day of Happiness and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network publishes the World Happiness Report. The report assesses global happiness using several criteria, including national and international dimensions. Despite improvements, India remains very low in the study, with many of India’s neighbors ranking high. The report shows countries’ happiness levels based on responses from a nationally representative sample of people about their current levels of satisfaction with life.

Finland topped the rankings for the sixth consecutive year with a score of 7.8, while other Norwegian countries such as Denmark and Iceland came in second and third respectively. Other countries in the top ten include Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg and New Zealand.

Countries are ranked based on their healthy life expectancy, GDP per capita, social support, low corruption, generosity in the community and freedom to make important life decisions.
According to the research, Taliban-ruled Afghanistan is the least prosperous of 137 countries. Also included are Lebanon, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo and countries at the bottom of the list. According to research, corruption and poor life expectancy are high in these countries.

India’s Rank in World Happiness Report
Although India’s ranking has improved from 136 to 125, the country still scores lower than its neighbors like Nepal, China and Bangladesh. Despite being the world’s fastest growing economy, India has repeatedly been ranked low in the index. In such a situation, many have even questioned how it can take a lower rank than the countries in crisis. Russia and Ukraine have been in conflict for the last almost a year, but when it comes to happiness, both countries scores higher than India, with Russia at 70th and Ukraine at 92nd. According to the research, the generosity of both countries has increased between 2020 and 2021. Philanthropy increased significantly in Ukraine but declined in Russia in 2022.
