Odisha Train Accident : On 2 June at 7:10 pm, three trains collided in Balasore, Odisha, killing 275 people. More than a thousand were injured. However, now about 2-250 injured are being treated. The rest have gone home.

Things are slowly getting back on track. On June 6, the Chief Secretary of Odisha said that more than 100 bodies are yet to be identified. People are still searching for their loved ones in the pile of dead bodies.

Five days after the incident, a man found his nephew’s body. He could not take it, because five other people are claiming the body. Now the DNA test of this dead body will be done. Then he will be handed over.

One such story is that of a father, whose son was thought to be dead and the corpses were piled on top of him. When he waved his hand among the corpses, people knew he was alive.

Father told everything.
This person named Helaram Malik said, ‘My son took the Coromandel train from Santragachi on June 2. He was going to Chennai. Around 7:30 he called me that there was a train accident and he was badly injured. He fainted after calling me.

‘People thought he was dead and he was kept in the mortuary at the Balasore school. Dead bodies were placed on top of it. He waved his hand when he regained consciousness. People saw that he was alive and took him to the hospital. After the son called us, we reached to find him. Finally we found him in Balasore hospital.

“It was very painful for me, because I could have lost my son forever,” she said. My son returned home after two years. He stayed with us for 15 days and then left. Whether he goes again or not will be his choice. But as a father, I would advise him not to go out for a job now.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation said that the unidentified bodies will be identified through DNA tests. 30 DNA samples of relatives claiming the bodies will be sent to Delhi AIIMS. The report will come from here in 7-8 days. The body will be handed over to the heirs only after the report comes.
