We will speed up the campaign to release possession of panchayat lands: Laljit Singh Bhullar

Free Panchayat Land from Encroachments: Laljit Singh Bhullar, Cabinet Minister of Punjab, Vikas Bhavan S.A.S. On the occasion of assuming his post as the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats at Nagar, he announced that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government will intensify the campaign to release encroachment from Panchayat lands.

Thanking Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for handing over the new responsibility, Laljit Singh Bhullar said that he will fulfill this responsibility with all due diligence. Bhullar said that the department will focus on major land acquisitions on a priority basis. He instructed the officials to identify such large land grabs and submit a report as soon as possible.

Cabinet Minister Bhullar, who was presiding over the first meeting with the officials of the department, was informed by the officials that under the second phase, about 1349 acres of government land has been released. He said that last year 9030 acres of land was made encroachment-free, the average market value of which is about Rs 2709 crore.

He said that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already announced that the state government is committed to freeing panchayat land from illegal occupation. He made it clear that influential persons occupying valuable government land in violation of rules will not be spared at any cost as the land does not belong to anyone.

While Laljit Singh Bhullar collected information about the works and schemes of various wings of the department, he sought cooperation from the officials for the progress of Punjab. He said that together we will take Punjab to new heights of development. The Rural Development and Panchayat Minister asked the officials to make the MGNREGA scheme more transparent and also to include maximum number of eligible beneficiaries under the scheme.

On this occasion Finance Commissioner K. Siva Prasad, Director Gurpreet Singh Khaira, Joint Development Commissioner Amit Kumar, Deputy Secretary Harkanwaljit Singh, Additional Director Sanjeev Garg, Joint Director Jatinder Singh Brar and other officers of the department were also present.
