Chandigarh: Heavy rains have created a threat of floods in Punjab. Cabinet Minister Harjot Bains has alerted the people. He has said that the water level is increasing in many villages and cities of Anandpur Sahib constituency. The administration and all the teams are on red alert. The water level in the dam is still much below the gate level. But still every precaution is being taken.

Due to the rain, the streets have been filled with water and water has entered people’s houses and shops. People cannot even go out to buy essential things for their daily use due to water inundation in the streets. Although the administration is trying to remove the water filled in the streets, but all seems to be unsuccessful due to the non-stop rain.
On the other hand, due to continuous rains, where the conditions are worse everywhere, Chandigarh-Mohali has also become flooded. The main roads and several roundabouts of Chandigarh are heavily waterlogged. Due to rising water level, apart from filling the city with water, the flood gates of Sukhna Lake also had to be opened. The flood gates were opened as soon as the water level of Sukhna Lake reached the danger zone.
The stable water level of the lake is 1162 but the floodgates are opened soon after it reaches 1163. The water of the lake is moving towards Baltana and Zirakpur through Kishangarh village of Chandigarh towards Ghaggar. The water level of Ghaggar is also continuously increasing. Due to this, the surrounding residential areas are being evacuated.
The entire water course area of the lake has been put on alert mode by the local administration. All the emergency vehicles have been kept ready by the administration including fixing various limits to deal with the emergency. An alert has been issued due to heavy rain in Mohali-Panchkula. The condition of Kharar-Laundra is also alarming. Apart from internal roads and paths, main roads are flooded. Traffic jam situation has also become a big problem for people. Heavy rains on one side and traffic jams on the other have disrupted life. Vehicles were also damaged due to falling trees due to heavy rain.
