Another astrophotographer, Apollo Lasky, also captured the astonishing phenomenon and shared it on social media. He said that such activity in the sun has never been seen in the past years. It has been estimated that the ‘Solar Tornado’ was rotating above the Sun at a speed of about 5 lakh kilometers per hour and its temperature was about two and a half million degrees Celsius. This is much higher than the surface of the Sun.
Solar tornadoes are similar to solar flares. They are generated by magnetic field lines on the surface of the Sun and lift up plasma clouds. These are not at all unusual for the Sun and occur several times a year, but the size of the current solar tornado was enormous.
