This time, on the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji, the procession of Sikh pilgrims has been stopped from going to Pakistan. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has canceled the proposed tour. Bhai Kulwinder Singh, in-charge of the Shiromani Committee’s Yatra and Jatha Department, said that this decision has been taken due to the worsening political situation in Pakistan and the difference in the dates of Guru Sahib’s martyrdom day.

The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee had sent information to the SGPC that this time the situation in Pakistan is not good. If a batch of Sikh pilgrims is sent from India to Pakistan, it will not be given more than eight days.

The jatha will not be allowed to stay at one place for more than one day. It was also asked to reduce the number of pilgrims in view of security. Earlier this batch was to leave for Pakistan on June 8, which was to return to India on June 16.

There is a considerable difference between the dates of the original Nanak Shahi calendar and the revised Nanak Shahi calendar. This is also one of the reasons behind the cancellation of the tour. According to the revised Nanakshahi calendar, the Shiromani Committee is celebrating the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji on May 23, while the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will celebrate the martyrdom day on June 16 at Gurdwara Sri Dera Sahib (Lahore). Shiromani Committee’s travel department in-charge Kulwinder Singh and Shiromani Committee’s spokesperson Harbhajan Singh said that the Shiromani Committee will leave for Pakistan on June 21 to celebrate the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Preparations are underway in this regard. This group will visit different Gurudhams of Pakistan.
